Since 1986, Pi Lambda Omega Chapter has remained very active in the Louisville, Kentucky community through a variety of service programs which align with the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated National Service Program Initiatives. The chapter’s current Emerging Young Leaders – Pearls of Perfection AKAdemy program is open to middle school girls. The program’s mission is to enhance the leadership potential of all participants and to prepare for future success. The Pearls of Perfection AKAdemy meets bi-monthly (excluding summer months) at Meyzeek Middle School.
Pi Lambda Omega also hosts the annual Women’s Health Symposium, which is held in October and features workshops which focus on personal development, weight management, financial management, healthy relationships and retirement planning. Health screenings are available, and a panel of women physicians are present to answer general health concerns in various fields. The symposium also features a luncheon with a keynote speaker geared to help motivate attendees to make a commitment to lead healthy lives.
These are only a couple of ways that Pi Lambda Omega Chapter continues to make an impact in the Louisville community. The chapter has given thousands of dollars in college scholarships over the years as well. Many of the community service initiatives are held in conjunction with the Derby City Tea Rose Foundation, a 501.c.3 charitable organization.
